The annual event has finished. It was my third time London Marathon in a row.My target was to finish 10mins later after Adam Osborne, who has been a running rival for 6 years, crosses the finish line. But I changed it 15mins, because he is really in good shape and target time is around 2hrs 25mins!!!
It's the first time in two years that I try my PB.All that I recently did are pacemaker so now I think I was nervous about my own race.
Weather forecast repeated that Sunday is hot in 23 degree. And that day was almost the same as the forecast, so I took a water bottle and had it through the head to leg from the first aid station.
One of my favourite place on the course is Tower Bridge. And when I came into the central London to cross the River Thames on it, I happily ran with Greg!! I noticed the 'Number 605', which is Greg's number I heard before the start, so I tried to follow him for about a mile then we got together and came through Tower Bridge and 13.1mile point.
At around the half point, I was not good but not bad, so I was carefully running at slower pace than my target of 3:47 per km.
But....I'm not sure the distance correctly, but I felt a cramp at around 16mile so couldn't make the pace up any more. Soon I realised I couldn't finish within my target time and better than PB, so I was almost likely to lose my motivation. But I said to myself I was in London, what I came over here for. I just kept running hoping my left hamstring got well.
I wanted to have better time even if it was not PB, so I tried to lift my legs up then my left hamstring was pulled and I was forced to stop at the rest of 4mile.
After I started again immeditately, I was really encouraged by lots of spectators along the both sides which never missed. It was like Tokyo Marathon but more than Tokyo.
Finally, I came back to Buckingham Palace then got to finish in St.James's Park. (I heard I was first Japanese overall because of no top athletes or withdrawal of them) The clock showed me the disappointing time of 2hrs 46min 15sec, but I thought it was not bad because I was there, I got the usual medal.
After the heat and marathon enthusiasm, I had a great time with Namban members and their friends for the rest of the stay.
Thank you to all your help that I got in England.
